14 killed in fire at Peru drug rehab center. CSF Rieti – A predawn fire at a private drug rehabilitation center killed 14 people in a town outside the Peruvian capital, Lima, on Saturday. Local fire authorities say rescue efforts were hampered by locked doors and barred windows at the 2-story building. The only survivor jumped from the second floor. Authorities are investigating the safety management of the facility. In Peru, 29 people died in January in a fire at an unlicensed drug treatment center where locked doors are said to have contributed to the large number of deaths. Many private rehabilitation centers, including unlicensed ones, accept addicts in Peru, which has up to 100000 people with addiction problems.
