Why Don’t More People See the Similarities in the “Gay Is the New Black” Debate.?

Question by Dawn: Why don’t more people see the similarities in the “gay is the new black” debate.?
I admit I gleaned this from various talk shows, articles, and newscasts.

But really as a bisexual half “black” & “white” person in a 7 year hetero interracial relationship, i feel that people are not looking at this from all angles.

First of all i have heard the argument that you don’t choose to be “black” but you can choose to be gay. There are some things i would like to point out about this common simple minded argument.

First of all being gay/bi is natural it’s not something you add or remove from yourself like a tattoo or medication. Just like some people are born with clinical chemical imbalance depression in their brains. Also the behavior of big horn sheep and dragon flies are good examples that homosexuality does exist outside of te human population, thus proving its natural status.

Second (though i don’t condone it) people CAN choose to become or appear as another race to avoid discrimination. This can be done with cosmetic surgery, make up, hair relaxers/perms (which is actually all to common in the “black” community), skin bleach, and Methoxsalen and other vitiligo drugs that alter melanin production, (like the man in the non fictional book “Black Like Me”).

This kind of interference is similar to the “mental treatment” many people insist those who are gay should subject themselves to. Both are cruel and have the potential to cause excessive permanent damage to the individual who undergoes it. Most people would never suggest that someone change their skin color to fit in, but the same people would ask others with an orientation different from their own to change. That’s what’s really sick.

Third the majority of homosexual individuals are in no way harming other people. Besides, forcing religious values on individuals who do not practice the specific religion is unconstitutional, and yet that is exactly what is being done when homophobic religious people like christians, muslims etc. withhold marital rights to gays based on their mythological doctrine.

Also my guy and i refuse to get married until marriage rights are extended to all consenting adults irregardless of gender/orientation. This is mainly because we are both bisexual and figure that even though the homophobic laws don’t affect us in our current relationship either one of us could have just as easily been the same gender as the other, and just because fate gave use a lucky freebie we shouldn’t abuse/flaunt it.

So whats up is this whole situation? Is it all out of other peoples ignorance and lack of logic , because that’s what it seems.
Over population is and is becoming more of a problem every day, so really it is people like that pshyco octomom and SOME mormans and the like are ones that need to be legally restricted.
Oh to some of you who are just being cruel trolls and refusing to see the evidence, go to jamacia and see how gays and even just suspected ones are treated it’s sick.

I am do have better insight too because in eailyier times my guy and i would’nt have been able to marry even if we wanted to because of laws preventing interracial marrages i suppose some of you would like those laws back in place as well because “marrying ouside your ethinc tribe” is mentioned in religious doctrines too.

Shannon;
If you are going to pick at other peoples answers instead of addressing the origenal question then please don’t bother “answering” any of my questions in the future.

Sanyo;
Actually yes those men DO have the “special” right to fall in love with and marry amply breasted women with out a ton of stima attached.
Surely Funke;
I agree there are similarities & differences but the ones you give are weak. Gay people were put into slavery like conditions in Hitler’s concentration camps, and employment has been witheld from gays in this country espceialy during the gay rights struggles in the 70’s thus leading to possible poverty which isnt much better that slavery and which the “black” community should be able to simpithize with too. I urge you to lookto statistics and you will see that many “blacks” do sturggle to find love, infact the vast majority of black women are single and have never been married. Also as far as hiding your identity in consirvitive enviornments, blacks do have that option just as i stated in the origenal question, they can hide their heritage through make up, surgery, skin bleach.
Also some people of “black” heritage do have to “come out” ever heard of passing for another race besides “black”, i have and i can too.
I’ll state it one more time incase anyone missed it above…

THE WORLD IS OVERPOPULATED WE DID “GO FORTH AND MULTIPLY” TOO MUCH IN FACT THE PEOPLE HAVING TONS OF KIDS THEY CAN’T INDEPENDANTLY CARE FOR ARE THE ONES WHO SHOULD BE RESTRICTED NOT INNOCENT GAYS!
Kurishi T; To be fair though gays have been shuned in the vast majority of societies through out history, being completely cast out of society, and often denied help and forced to fend completely for themselves, that is NOT better than slavery.

dee*; Yes the things you mentioned are valid contriceptives, however humanity has consistantly proved that over all it is not responsable enough to warrent the best benifits (e.g. “oops the coondom broke, i forgot my pill” ect.). I also suspect that there is ample evidince to suggest that many gay people who use artificial insimination might not do so if states made adoption and foster care opprortunities more avalible to responsable, educated, economically stable gay individuals and couples.

Its not the same, do you see attack dogs attacking gays, or gays being lynched or gay slaves

I fail to see how you have sex would give you any rights, What about guys that only like girls with big boobs? Shouldn’t they get special rights?
