What’s Your Opinion on Gambling?

Question by ? Abby: What’s your opinion on gambling?
I picked this social issue for my Art class, and I have to do a 2-page write-up on an “Argument on Gambling”. I also have to create a piece of art, it can be anything from drawing and painting to sculpture and figures. Any ideas?

Illegal gambling, compulsive gambling, online gambling, etc. Give me your opinion 🙂

*Easy 10 points!

Thank you so so much in advance for any thoughts/ideas.

gamble when you have extra money, do not gamble when you are struggling in life.
gambling is a short cut to making fast money, and often times, it comes with great risks.

If I enjoyed poker or blackjack I would consider losing money at it paying for entertainment, and would just have a certain amount I was willing to lose, and leave when it was gone. I used to live in Vegas, and would have $ 100 I was willing to lose, and would always quit if I ever was up by $ 50 or more. I only lost my $ 100 once. Unfortunately a lot of people who enjoy gambling get a “high” from it and aren’t able to do that, just like alcoholics can’t stop after one drink. While both can have equally devastating effects, one night of gambling can be much more devastating to a gambling addict than an average night of drinking for an alcoholic. My bf hosts a poker game every Monday, and it is only a ten dollar buy in, so at worst you pay $ 10 for a night of fun and snacks, and at best you leave with $ 30-50 more than you came with. There is nothing wrong with that, but I do feel that casinos take advantage of people who have problems. I am still on the fence about it, because you can’t make everything illegal just because some people have no self restraint. I would never go to a casino just to gamble. I always have gone with friends, just for something to do. Hope this helps- if there is anything else you feel I might have insight on, (since I did live in Vegas) feel free to send me a message. I have spent quite a bit of time around high rollers- I used to hang around a guy who would play $ 10,000 a hand on blackjack. I saw him down as much as $ 100,000 and then go get more money wired to him.
