Question by Cannibalistic Dinosaur: Isn’t “crack” and “cocaine” the same thing/drug?

I’m asking this because my friend’s writing a report on drugs and was confused.

Pennington, Chief, Atlanta Police Department, announce that a federal jury returned guilty verdicts today against EDDIE OLIVER, 30, VINCENT WILLIAMS, 33, and DEMETRIUS REVERE, 31, of Northwest Atlanta, on charges of racketeering, possession of cocaine and crack cocaine with intent to distribute, armed robbery, and possession of firearms. Oliver was acquitted of robbery and firearms possession. According to David E. Nahmias and the documents and information presented in court: OLIVER, WILLIAMS, and REVERE were indicted in March 2003 on racketeering charges in connection with their membership in the Diablos street gang. The Diablos operated in Northwest Atlanta and their activities included murder, attempted murder, robbery, kidnapping, witness tampering, and narcotics distribution. Former City of Atlanta Police Officer David Alan Freeman previously pleaded guilty to civil rights violations he committed as an associate of the Diablos.
