I’m Getting Ready to Graduate College and Am Planning…what to Do (Advice?).?

Question by Pixie: I’m getting ready to graduate college and am planning…what to do (advice?).?
I’m graduating college with a BS (psych major) this May. I had previously thought I would just get a job and continue on with my Masters, then doctorate. However, I noticed I REALLY struggled through my science and math classes, and you aren’t allowed to get C’s in grad school (B or better). So, I came to a realization that as much as I LOVE the field of psychology, I’m not really as smart as I wish I was.

I love to help people. I dig psychology. I’m REALLY good at figuring motivations and giving GREAT advice. I have an uncanny knack of sizing a situation up and pointing out ways to work through them (for others).

Yet I suck at math and science courses (I eeked by with C’s in all but abnormal psych, which I aced…it was waaaaaaaay interesting to me). So, I’m not so sure continuing my education is so doable for my intellectual level (I’m being honest, NOT lazy).

My previous plans are in question and I have no clue what direction to go…advice, please!!!!?????
Oh, btw (additional details), I’m a returning student and a single mother…so I need to be able to earn a living for us. I’m hoping some of you will have some great advice….help me see things from a fresh perspective. Thank you!!
Wow, thank you all so much for your valuable input. I’m so grateful for your advice and ideas!!

Graduate school tends to be more focused on the discipline in question. It is not like undergraduate work where you are all over the place filling university requirements. Yes, the content becomes more difficult but you can handle it. Most of us, including myself, wish we were smarter than we actually are.
Persistence pays off in the long run, which will allow you to eventually work through your weak areas. If psychology is something you truly enjoy, take the GRE’s and see how you do. Good luck

The world is your oyster as they say. You can do a lot with your degree. You can work as a social workers, teach at a community college or highschool. Just depends on what strikes your fancy, but I feel your dilemma though. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I switched majors twice, and then I took this aptitude test at my college called KUDER test. It ask really funcky off the wall questions, but it was right on when the results came back and I’ve been happy with my career choice ever since!
