Dad Has a Bad Gambling Problem, Help?
Question by MusicGirl: dad has a bad gambling problem, help?
i live alone with my dad and so for the past 6 months, i’ve been keeping a good eye on my dad to make sure he doesnt gamble. everything was fine until this past week. i trusted him enough where he can stay home by himself and he ended up going to the casino and getting all of his paychecks and lost it all. i yelled at him and gave him a big lecture but he doesnt see his problem. i want to get help for him but its hard because he would need to admit he has a problem. he doesnt know he has one, he just gets whatever money he has and gambles. to prevent us from being late with paying bills and such, I have to hide his money. i know its bad but I have no other choice. and now he’s mad so he wants to move out and be alone so he can do whatever he wants. and he cant do that, im living with him and going to school here. how can i get him to think more rationally and realize his mistakes? i want him to be more calm and admit he needs help. but its so hard when he doesnt listen. any advice would be great please. how can i stop this before it gets out of hand? before i convince him to get help, i need to talk to him and i tried so many things

How Do I Get My Parents to See How Unfair They Are?
Question by Me: How do I get my parents to see how unfair they are?
I am 19 years old and about to start community college. I was “awarded” enough money in loans to cover my tuition and a portion of my books. My parents have offered me no support. Any time I mention school or money or vent about how I’m stressed I am, saying “I don’t know how I’m going to do this.” They just say, “Better figure it out.”
My brother went to the school of his choice (state school). He was offered a full ride at a different school but turned it down. My parents paid for his tuition, books and room and board. He did take out loans but they paid for what was left. He screwed around that year and failed his classes, and lost his financial aid. My parents took out all the loans they could and gave him a ton of money so he could continue going to school. He worked then a little and he works now a little, but I know he doesn’t pay for anything. My dad takes care of everything for him. My brother lives in a duplex owned by my Dad, rent free, so he can continue going to school there. Me, my mom and my dad live 4 hours away. My parents pay for his books, my dad bought him an ipad (because it helps him do better in school, he says) and they pay for his car, insurance and give him gas money.
Do You Truly Believe Eating Can Be an Addiction?
Question by –: Do you truly believe eating can be an addiction?
Now days it seems as if anything can be categorically labeled as an “addiction”, from the conventional drugs, cigarettes, caffeine to now sex, gambling—even chocolate! Scientist have concluded that a similar chemical reaction to occur in the brain be that cocaine or a box of oreos. But do you seriously think the obese demographic are just helpless victims of an “addiction” rather than lacking self control?
COOLJOHN- There lies the semantics of the word “addiction” that I was questioning. If lacking self control equates an addiction, our entire system of will is a case of addiction.
SexyArmy- Your view of addiction differs from mine. There is something chemical within the drugs etc. that ignites the addiction, this is undeniable. One cannot simply smoke crack for weeks and suddenly stop and be perfectly well the next day. Overeating is not comparable, two people can have different experiences with food. Food itself is not addictive, hence the scope of the question.
