Drug Treatment Centre: What Type of Drug Treatment Centres Can You Go to for Help?
Drug addiction has become one of the biggest social problems in the United Kingdom. Hundreds of thousands of people have fallen victim to drug addiction of all sorts. First, the crack epidemic destroyed the lives of thousands. Now people are turning to every imaginable type of drug to get high. This temporary high, unfortunately, results in a very prolonged destructive phase.
Drug addicts find it quite difficult to get away from their addiction. They also think that addiction is an incurable disease and they would die instead of getting better. Drug dealers who do not want to ruin their business create these myths. They brainwash these people for their own evil benefits.
There are however many drug addicts who want to get rid of the addiction. They know that addiction would kill them. They also face some problems of the other kind. The biggest issue faced by these people is the lack of knowledge about the drug treatment centres.
They are also unaware of the type of treatment these establishments provide. For the benefit of these people and for general information, following lines will give you some details about drug treatment centres.
Consultancy centres
These centres are not drug treatment centres in true sense of the word. In most cases, they provide psychological and emotional consultancy and counseling to drug addicts. They also have liaisons with the actual drug treatment centres where they can refer these patients. Another facility available at these centres is that of new syringes and an option to submit your used syringes. This arrangement is necessary to avoid the spread of communicable diseases, including AIDS, through needle sharing.
Rehabilitation centres
Drug rehabilitation centres are the actual places where one can get full treatment for his or her drug addiction. These drug treatment centres are present in all major cities and towns in UK. Most drug rehab centres require that a drug addict must be admitted in the facility. This is necessary as in other case a person can again get involved in drugs after visiting a clinic. A prolonged stay at these rehab centres – usually one month to three months – is necessary to drain the body of all the toxic effects of drugs.
Drug rehab centres are also equipped with all the modern machinery that can diagnose the extent of drug addiction and its possible side effects. As the drug addiction varies with the type of substance used, these centres have to use different medication and therapy for each drug user. Heroin addiction proves to be the most difficult addiction to overcome and requires an intense treatment strategy.
Alcoholism and cocaine addiction are treated in a rather relaxed manner. This type of addiction, though strong, is not as dangerous as heroin and rehab centres generally allow the patients to leave the facility after a month or so. They are however required to come back for regular clinical visits and evaluation.
