Drug Addiction Issue — Please Help?

Question by marie: Drug addiction issue — please help?
We have a family member who is addicted to street drugs. He is going to a 3 day detox (may be there now). Problem is there is no money for a “program” and no health insurance. No one has the money – nor have property to even get a second mortgage. Do you have ANY IDEAS of how you can get help without paying? He will die if he doesn’t get help. The drugs have him bad. He will take ANYTHING he can get his hands on and any possible way he can. He wants help finally. Meetings alone are not going to help him. He needs at least a 30 day program but probably in bad enough shape to really need a long term program. Do any of you have any suggestions out there? I know there are different ways to get aid. We just don’t know who can aid him. He is not a person who is close enough to me personally to be my problem or concern but I do care.
1. I do not live close to this person
2. HE DOES WANT HELP (see question)
3. We are in Florida
I went thru this with my oldest son too. This is his father – court appt. programs are only for people who have committed a felony and relating to drugs.
Yes, my son’s father – my son is 26. This is my ex-husband but I do care about the family.

Outside of a lot of prayer the person has to really want to stop or they will just get caught up in that negative situation again. Be there for them and keep them so busy that all they will have time for is sleep.

Get into a court appointed program…usually offered by state or county…

and if its anything other than booze….its gonna take ALOT longer than 30days….crack and oxycotton are way way way longer.

My brother went thru same…nothing works…but it is worth a try.

good luck….
