Finding a treatment for cocaine addiction is not always easy, you must be serious about breaking from your addiction and find a good treatment program that can help you through it. The Gateway Drugs

Although it is not generally one of the first drugs tried, Dr. Robert DuPont includes cocaine as a gateway drug because its false “safe image” has catapulted this most addictive of all drugs to the third most frequently used drug in out country. The national 1 – 800 – COCAINE helpline found that 93% of cocaine users first used marijuana, 75% of adults who have used marijuana 100 times or more have tried cocaine, and 80% of cocaine users report having 5 or more drinks in a row 2 weeks before interview.

Crack addiction is a concern for many parents and loved ones of users. The fact that one’s energy seems increased without a sense of being groggy accompanied by a feeling of euphoria is very addictive. There can be a sense of omnipotence about an inexhaustible reserve of energy initially. As one’s tolerance builds up, the highs are shorter, the depression often sets in when the drug wears off and anxiety grows.

Cocaine being a quick acting stimulant gives an instant and pleasurable high which induces a person to take more of this drug and at more frequent intervals. Since cocaine is a party drug it is often taken in conjunction with cigarettes and alcohol which intensify its effects. Withdrawal, i.e. stopping its use will result in depression, anguish, pain, weakness and an intense craving. Long term usage will lead to cardiovascular, neuromuscular and brain damages. Treatment is indicated even in moderate cases and specialist cocaine addiction treatment centers are recommended per several factors like: rate-of-recovery, damage level because of the consumption of cocaine, duration of usage and severity of symptoms.
