Can I Join the Marines With This Criteria?
Question by Kenneth: Can I join the Marines with this criteria?
I don’t want to waste the gas money on a drive to the recruiters office since I am unemployed at the moment so I hoping someone can answer my question for me. I am 27. I only have a GED with no college credits. I have a red mark, I’m sure, in my med history. I was sent to a medical facility after wanting to talk to someone. I was working at a college at the time so during a lunch break I walked into the University Counselors Office to talk, that’s all. They start asking questions, duh. So when they asked about if I ever wanted to hurt anyone I said “Well, yeah.” No big deal. I thought “We all have moments when we feel like we want to hurt someone.” Wrong move. They locked the doors and called a UPD officer to escort me to the City PD to then escort me to a “facility.” I also had drug issues at the time. I wasn’t a junkie but I was getting there. Anyway, after the 72 hrs they stick me on some meds, don’t even try to offer counseling therapy. I just got worse and one evening I just started crying uncontrollably, biting myself, stabbing my belongings with a knife. So, to calm myself down I took quite a few Klonopin with a few Xanax and went to bed. Wasn’t really trying to kill myself, I had just built up a tolerance to benzo’s and I wanted to knock myself out. The next day I was better and called my “handlers” to tell them I needed to change something. Told them about the night before and, again, escorted for a 96hr watch. They changed my meds and after three months unemployed and gaining 50 pounds I said, “This is bull shit.” So I quit my meds and quit my rec drugs also. Three years later I am doing great and still off drugs but I need something more. I never had a family to speak of and I want some more out of life. I want more discipline. I want some brothers. I want a position. I’ve already checked with the Army and they won’t take me because of my age along with the fact that I only have a GED. They said the med thing shouldn’t have been a problem though. Anyone out there have an answer for me. Like I said I don’t want to waste an hours drive just to be told, “Sorry, man. Can’t help you.”

The Marines are way more selective than the army. So probably not.

I don’t think the Marines is going to take you, they are currently downsizing the ranks right now. so the days of moral and medical waivers are over. If your too old for the army then you are definitley too old for the Marines because they are much more selective on who they let in, so not gonna happen.
