Although no age is given, suboxone can and is prescribed for teens in one specific circumstance: drug addiction

This is a semi-synthetic opioid used for treatment of drug abuse. Buprenorphine/naloxone (Suboxone), a semi-synthetic opioid, is used to treat opioid addiction. It is also used to treat moderate pain levels in persons who are not able to take opioid for pain.

Before taking this medication it is important that the prescribing physician be aware of other medical conditions are present as well as all medications and nutritional supplements you are taking to avoid drug interactions and dangerous side effects…including death.

Patients should be seen regularly during the first month they are taking Suboxone so that the doctor can monitor and determine if refills will be ordered. Prescriptions will be for short periods of time based upon assessment.

All changes in dosing, stopping use should be checked with your prescribing doctor because there are guidelines and safety issues.
