Dad Has a Bad Gambling Problem, Help?
Question by MusicGirl: dad has a bad gambling problem, help?
i live alone with my dad and so for the past 6 months, i’ve been keeping a good eye on my dad to make sure he doesnt gamble. everything was fine until this past week. i trusted him enough where he can stay home by himself and he ended up going to the casino and getting all of his paychecks and lost it all. i yelled at him and gave him a big lecture but he doesnt see his problem. i want to get help for him but its hard because he would need to admit he has a problem. he doesnt know he has one, he just gets whatever money he has and gambles. to prevent us from being late with paying bills and such, I have to hide his money. i know its bad but I have no other choice. and now he’s mad so he wants to move out and be alone so he can do whatever he wants. and he cant do that, im living with him and going to school here. how can i get him to think more rationally and realize his mistakes? i want him to be more calm and admit he needs help. but its so hard when he doesnt listen. any advice would be great please. how can i stop this before it gets out of hand? before i convince him to get help, i need to talk to him and i tried so many things

Call the local chapter of Gambling Anonymous, see if you can get someone who’s close to his own age to talk to him. He might listen better if it’s not coming from you.

So he’s a gambling addict. Go to yahoo.com, search on gambling addiction. Get info, there’s groups, like AA, I think. He needs an intervention from family and friends to convince him he’s got a problem.
