Before you say anything, I am not trying to commit suicide. Please do not answer “get help” or anything like that. It’s for a fic I’m writing.

It depends significantly on the individual’s opioid tolerance level. For example, somebody who has been taking narcotic drugs for a long time due to chronic pain will have a much higher tolerance level and therefore their body will need more of the drug to even be effective. To give some perspective, an OxyContin (oxycodone HCl controlled-release) dose of over 40mg within a 24 period can be fatal (seriously) for somebody who is opioid intolerant, whereas there are some people who have been battling chronic pain for so long that they need to take 80mg of OxyContin two to three times per day to even get effective pain relief (again, this dose, and any total daily intake over 40mg would be extremely dangerous and potentially fatal for someone who is opioid intolerant).

Doses are always prescribed by your physician and titrated from the lowest possible effective dose and are worked upwards as necessary for pain relief.

Taking any dose of oxycodone that is not prescribed is ALWAYS dangerous regardless of the dose taken and any dose can be an overdose. As well, the dose should never be increased at the discretion of the patient or without the explicit direction of the prescribing physician.

Cheers
