Neglect of a Mentally Challenged Woman?
Question by knightrider235: Neglect of a mentally challenged woman?
I handle responsible gaming for a large casino. I have a situation with a mentally challenged woman who frequents my casino with her mentally challenged bf almost everyday. My dilemma is this, they both come on one the free shuttle and in turn recieve $ 5 to gamble with. That’s all the money they have. After spending that money they wonder the casino bothering other guests. When we confront her she become irrate. We also found that she is diabetic and have had to treat her several times. We have tried to get her legal guardian, which is her father to sign exclusion paperwork to keep her from riding the bus to the casino, but he refuses. I feel he’s using us as a way to “baby-sit” her while he’s at work. I’m trying to convince my casino to do a forced exclusion, but they say there is no legal reason to do this. Is there anyway I can get someone to help this girl? Everyone here seems to think that it’s “not their problem”.
We asked him about sending somebody with her to keep and eye on her and his reponse was “She’s big girl, she can take care of herself.”
As for the bothering part, they tend to stand right behind other guests as they play, which makes the guests very uncomfortable. When they are asked to step away or move along she becomes very upset and irrate with both the guest and the employees.

Suggest to the woman’s guardian to have someone who can help her go with her. and her boyfriend. I’m sure he will at least consider it.

Maybe they feel i tis “not their problem” because is isn’t.
I understand your dilemma, but how have the guests really been bothered?
Surely not by the sight of people wandering aroudn a casino not gambling? I do that all the time, as there is much other fun stuff to do, thank you very much.
If the security folks have nothing to go on then here is my suggestion:
– Go the the casino down the street or wherever.
– Buy 150 dollars in 5 dollar chips
– Give them to the people in exhange for a written agreement to never come back (written by your attorney of course)
Problem solved, or at least pawned off 🙂
