Alcohol Rehab Programs: Alcohol Rehab Programs for Busy Professionals
Most professionals with busy lives occasionally have a drink or two to help take the edge off the stress. But when the stress becomes too much and drinking turns into a habit, having such a busy lifestyle can make recovery extra difficult. Many of the best alcohol rehab programs require their patients to take leave from work for at least a few weeks, and this is simply out of the question for some professionals. However, if you are in this situation, do not give up on the idea of entering rehab for your addiction. You do not necessarily have to set work aside to pursue your sobriety. There are alternative options.
Outpatient treatment
Many of the most popular alternatives to traditional alcohol rehab programs involve outpatient treatment. There are many types of outpatient rehab facilities, but the important thing is that they all enable you to get sober without having to stay at a rehab facility. You will meet with your doctor regularly, and you will probably be advised to attend meetings and even addiction therapy, but for the most part you will be allowed to recover in your own home.
Many alcoholics who undergo outpatient treatment still choose to enter a treatment facility for the detox phase. This would require you to take a couple of days off work, but that is negligible compared to the weeks-long timeframe that goes along with many inpatient treatment programs. It is something to consider.
However you decide to approach your outpatient treatment, it is important that you be truly committed to getting sober. Inpatient alcohol rehab programs are designed to make it easy for people to make it through the difficult early stages of recovery without giving in to their cravings. To get sober on your own, without the inpatient experience, you are going to have to have extra strength to make up for the lack of daily care.
Accelerated rehab
Recently there has been a widespread trend in so-called “accelerated” alcohol rehab programs, which supposedly take alcoholics through all the stages of recovery in a way that takes less time than normal. The effectiveness of such programs has not yet been established, so you take substantial risk in getting involved with accelerated rehab. There are good reasons why alcohol recovery takes as long as it does, and there is danger that accelerated rehab would be just a temporary fix that fails to address the deeper underpinnings of alcoholism.
If you are not sure which type of program is right for you, call a treatment center or talk to your doctor to find out what options are available. And if your addiction is very serious, you may simply have to sacrifice some work productivity in order to get yourself on track. In the end, long-term sobriety is infinitely more important than a little short-term business success.
Do you suspect that you may be an alcoholic? Are you under the influence of alcohol at all times? Is your habit beginning to affect your work or your relationship with your loved ones? Stepping up and declaring that you are an alcoholic takes great courage, but the first step of recovering from addiction is admitting to the problem. If you’ve tried to stop and you think that you have lost hope on all types of alcohol recovery treatments, think again. Maybe you just didn’t do it right the first time. There’s still hope for you yet. You should never give up.
