Do I Need a Database or Something a Little More in Depth?
I am in need of a way to access my large amounts of resources for our outpatient chemical dependency treatment center. I was thinking I might need to make a database so that when the guys call or come in looking for, lets say a halfway house for example, I can type “halfway house” into a field and it will pull up all the halfway houses I have inputted into the database. And I would like to be able to narrow the search down by county and what sort of funding they take, things like that. Maybe I don’t even need a “database” I’m not really sure. So if someone could let me know if there is a free online resource or even software for my needs, it would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks!

MS Office Access may help, it has some ready made templates you could use and am sure it may help you create web interface for it, but not sure.
Yes u need a database to store your data and a CUSTOM APPLICATION to retrive, update, manipulate…. those data. It seems from your description that u need a desktop application. The database that may suit your purpose best is Java DB. You can download it free from the link below:

The custom application is not available free. U r to hire some coder to develop it for you. If u like I’m ready to develop it for you at reasonable charges.
If you learn a little VBA and a little SQL, you can build quite a nice little application like that in Access (or Open Office’s equivalent, which is free).
You can do it without a database, but you can also travel coast to coast without mechanical transportation. A database would be the easiest (and sanest) way. You could even have dropdowns, so you could click on “halfway house” and click on the county (or click an “all” box). Or click on types of halfway houses. It’s really trivial to anyone who has ever created an Access application. You might even find a high school student who needed a programming project who would write it for you.
You could probably get away with Excel, but Access would be your best bet here. What you are asking can be easily done in Access.
